FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Why get an extended warranty?

All mechanical devices require maintenance to function optimally. Watches face the additional burden of daily wear and tear, exposure to moisture, and other pitfalls of life on the wrist and 24/7 operation. A luxury timepiece is an investment and a warranty ensures that you will not incur costly service expenses for at least several years of ownership. Even though we work with the top dealers in the industry and our products are in great condition, it is normal to expect that a watch will need service every few years to maintain peak functionality.

What is the period of coverage?

The extended warranty coverage period begins with the purchase warranty expires.

What does it cover?

The warranty covers all mechanical issues with the running of the watch. It also covers water resistance, but only for those watches specifically certified to be water-resistant and worn within manufacturer specifications. Our warranty also covers the battery replacement for quartz watches.

What is excluded?

Any damage to the case or mechanical functioning caused by misuse, dropping, jarring, or excessive exposure to moisture. Crystal, bracelets, crowns, straps, and bands are also excluded. Please see our full warranty disclosure for specific details. Vintage watches are not covered for any water resistance damage.

Why service your watch?

All mechanical devices require maintenance to function optimally. Watches face the additional burden of daily wear and tear, exposure to moisture, and other pitfalls of life on the wrist and 24/7 operation. The same way we change the oil in our cars watches also utilize lubricants that need to be cleaned out and changed every few years in order for the watch to perform optimally. Beyond that, regular servicing prevents expensive damage, particularly in watches designed to be water-resistant. Water-resistance is achieved through a series of seals and gaskets, all of which age out of effectiveness over time and need to be updated periodically, generally every 2 years.

Grand Central Watch holds direct parts accounts with many of the world’s leading luxury watch manufacturers and our technicians have trained with those companies ensuring that all work is performed with genuine parts according to brand practices and procedures.

Why get a watch authenticated?

Authentication requires specific expertise to ensure that a watch is 100% genuine. All parts including the bracelet, dial, and movement components must be true to the manufacturer’s original design. Buy and sell with confidence knowing that master technicians have verified the authenticity of your luxury timepiece.

Authentication Process:

Our technicians are specially trained to evaluate the authenticity of a full range of luxury watch brands. The authentication process includes:

1. External Inspection — Confirmation that all case parts are correct for the manufacturer and model including the case, bracelet, dial, caseback, etc.

2. Internal Examination — Each watch is opened and the movement is inspected for any parts that may have been inappropriately substituted in previous handling.

3. Final Assessment — If all parts are confirmed to be genuine, authenticity is issued.
